Following the devastation brought about by Hurricane Helene in certain parts of the United States, tennis star Jessica Pegula has offered to assist people affected by the storm in a small city that has a special meaning to the American.
The storm was the most powerful hurricane ever to strike the Big Bend region of Florida before moving inland and claiming several lives. Numerous fatalities were reported in North and South Carolina, where Helena landed as a tropical storm. At least 30 people have been killed in Buncombe County, home to the mountain city of Asheville where Pegula got married in 2021.
Pegula willing to extend aid to affected citizens
After news of the devastation came to light, Pegula took to social media to express her sympathy to those affected. The World No.3 offered to help the victims who had been affected by the tropical storm.
"Asheville always holds a special place in my heart because it’s where I got married. I can’t believe the devastation right now. So many people stranded and missing. I hope everyone is staying as safe as they possibly can. What are some ways we can help?" wrote Pegula on social media.
The recent US Open finalist has a net worth of almost $6 billion, as she is set to inherit the enormous wealth from her father, Terry Pegula. The elder Pegula is one of the richest businessmen in the United States, as he and his wife are owners of two sports teams, the Buffalo Bills in the NFL and the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL.
