America’s
Danielle Collins and Belarus’
Victoria Azarenka engaged in interesting social media banter. Both players recently participated in the ongoing WTA 1000 event in the Spanish capital, Madrid, but could not go deep into the event.
On her official account on the social media platform Instagram, Azarenka posted a picture with the caption: “I'm sorry I
offended you with my common sense." In response to that, Collins wrote: "2nd
post." Azarenka then got back to her by writing: "how much can you
relate to that?!?!"
It is not clear what both players were referring to, but whatever the reason was, it was nice to see two elite athletes having a bit of banter on social media. Azarenka had a rather disappointing outing at the Madrid
Open, where she was knocked out after losing in the round of 32 to Spain’s Sara Sorribes
Tormo in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-0. On the other hand, Collins,
who came into the competition with a red-hot form after winning the Miami Open
and the Charleston Open, saw her journey come to an end in the round of 16 as
she ended up losing to the current world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka
with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
