The first WTA 1000 of the season will take place in Doha with the Qatar Open, a tournament held since 2001, which will be played from February 8 to 14 at the International Tennis and Squash Complex — featuring a main draw of 56 players in singles and with Amanda Anisimova as the defending champion.
It will be the first major event of the Middle East Swing — just one week before the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships — and will feature an almost complete lineup of the top WTA stars. Joining the defending champion are world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, the recent Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina, and three-time Doha Open champion Iga Swiatek.
In fact, the entire top 10 will be present, with only two confirmed absences among the top 30: Naomi Osaka (No. 14) and Marta Kostyuk (No. 23) were the first players to withdraw from the tournament.
It will be a key moment for American players, considering that defending champion Anisimova (No. 4) and semifinalist Jessica Pegula (No. 6) have a significant number of points to defend, while for Coco Gauff (No. 5), it will be a golden opportunity to earn points and distance herself from her competitors for the No. 1 American ranking — especially since she lost in the first round in 2025 and did not gain points.
We will also see several highly anticipated returns to the courts after long injury breaks. Players such as Paula Badosa, Zheng Qinwen, and Barbora Krejcikova will face an important event where they will have the chance to earn points to recover in the rankings after a long period of inactivity — all having spent several months off the tour during the second half of 2025 — and even complicated early starts in 2026.
