Maria Sakkari will get her 2022 season underway tomorrow in Australia and speaking ahead of the new season Sakkari admitted belief in doing even better.
The 2021 season has been a brilliant one for Maria Sakkari who had a lot of success over the course of the year. The Greek player always possesses a lot of talent but a lot of the time found herself being her worst enemy especially when it came to playing consistent tennis. In 2021 that changed, with Sakkari playing her most balanced and consistent tennis yet resulting in a major breakout year.
Heading into 2022, Sakkari sits at number 6 ready to take another step forward. Speaking ahead of her return to competition she said:
"After having a very good season, I’m curious if I can do that again and if I can do that even better. I believe that I can do even better, but who knows."
It's a very healthy outlook for Sakkari who is curious about her own ability to replicate a similar year in 2022. She did say that she has a lot of confidence about doing it and nobody should really doubt her:
"At the same time I'm confident that I can do it.”
Only time will tell but if she is able to keep up the good level she will be a threat to win a grand slam this year, especially on hard courts and clay.
