Bianca Andreescu US Open 2021
Bianca Andreescu lost against Anett Kontaveit at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells which ended her title defence pursuit in the desert.
Heading into the match Andreescu never lost a match in the desert having won the event the only she played it in 2019. The Canadian struggled tremendously against Kontaveit ultimately losing in two sets. After the match, Andreescu expressed regret about the result saying:
“I think today I didn’t play my best. I didn’t feel my best. But, I have to deal with what I had. It obviously wasn’t enough, The conditions were a bit tough as well with the with and with the sun. Anett [Kontaveit], I honestly don’t think she played her best tennis either. But, you know, she was the better player today.”
It was the 3rd time Andreescu lost to Kontaveit in her career and the defeat left Andreescu filled with many different mixed emotions as the 2021 season will end up as a major disappointment. After this event, Andreescu will find herself out of the top 20 with several disappointing outings during the year. She did not offer much insight into her thoughts simply saying:
“My mind’s all over the place with many different thoughts and opinions."
It's back to the drawing board for Andreescu who did not specify where she will play next if at all anymore in 2021.
