"I do not want to think about what my retirement will be like" - Halep not yet thinking about end of career

Simona Halep did not have the greatest of years in 2021 yet the Romanian player is far from retirement and does not want to think about it.

Any time a player starts getting up there in age many start wondering just how long their career will last. One such player is Simona Halep who has crossed the 30-mark while also enduring one of the worst seasons in the past few years. The troubling part for Halep is that she has dealt with a multitude of injuries which is something that did not happen in years prior.

Naturally many started wondering how long Halep has got left and during a talk to Romanian TV, Digisport Halep touched upon the topic. She was asked about the retirement of fellow Romanian player Horia Tecau who hung up the racquet after the ATP Finals. On that Halep said:

"Horia's retirement is a loss for Romanian and world tennis. An extraordinary character. He had a dream and he fulfilled it. I congratulate him with all my heart for what he has achieved.

Halep then briefly touched upon her retirement explaining that it will be a very difficult thing for her but luckily it's still several years away.

"I don't want to think about what my retirement will be like, I have a few more years until then, but it will be a very difficult time."

The last time Halep played in Linz was another disappointment for her. She played solid tennis overall but suffered another injury which forced her to pull out ahead of the semifinals. She promised to be back in Australia and hopefully, she will.
