Aryna Sabalenka finally won a grand slam in her career and it's a huge relief for the Belarussian player who looked like she would never get it done for a while.
Sabalenka emerged in tennis as a fairly young player and her talent was quite evident from the start. While the grand slam doubles tally changed from zero to one and then two, Sabalenka never got the one in singles. For a while, it seemed like she would never get it done as she was overtaken by younger talents.
However things clicked this year as she finally got it done and it's a huge relief:
"That’s been really tough to get, super emotional, every Slam was super emotional, and right now, when I finally get it, it’s relief - it’s joy. I’m just proud of myself, of my team and everyone, you know.”
When asked how she will celebrate her victory, Sabalenka said:
“I don’t know, I don’t know! Probably eating everything that I couldn’t this week!”
Her celebration with her team was quite emotional and she recalled:
“To be honest, I was a little bit swearing - it’s crazy. These guys are like my family, you know. We’ve been through really tough times and they’ve been there for me, they supported me in the most tough moments."
