Former world number five America’s Jimmy Arias believes that current women’s world number Iga Swiatek’s lack of ‘personality’ is not good for the sport.
The 22-year-old is the leading player in the women’s singles category, despite being still very young.
Arias was quoted in a report where he stated that he would like to see more personality from Swiatek.
"From my standpoint, I don't think she's been great for women's tennis,” he said. “Because she wears her hat so low that you can't even see her face or her eyes during a match, so you don't get a connection as much as you could. So, I don't mind her getting angry in some ways, but I want to see her personality."
Swiatek is coming on the back of a rather disappointing time in Wimbledon 2023 where she was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Ukraine’s tennis star Elina Svitolina with a score of 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
Despite that result, Swiatek will be slightly pleased with her performance in the third Grand Slam of the year as it was her best outing in London.
The Warsaw-born is currently taking part in a tournament in her home town where she is currently facing Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer for a spot in the final.
