@atptour u have to ask the question. How can a guy not play one more point if he’s not injured to the point of screaming and rolling on the ground with a catastrophic injury! @HugoGaston7 needs to be asked that question. What a joke!
Hugo Gaston has never been far away from criticism with the Frenchman fined a huge amount in recent months for intentionally throwing a ball to replay a point against Borna Coric in Madrid, but at a Challenger, he gave up entirely.
On match point, he retired one point away from defeat and Rennae Stubbs, former coach of Serena Williams, renowned pundit and former doubles World Number One didn't take too kindly to it.
Calling Gaston a 'joke' and a 'clown', she called for action to be taken against him and for the Frenchman to be suspended from the sport for his actions.
"ATP Tour, you have to ask the question. How can a guy not play one more point if he's not injured to the point of screaming and rolling on the ground with a catastrophic injury!" Stubbs wrote on Twitter.
"Hugo Gaston needs to be asked that question. What a joke!" the Australian added.
She continued in further tweets: "This guy is a clown! I mean he's the guy who pulled a ball out of his pocket to get a point stopped that he was about to lose! Just a loser! Time to suspend him for real."
After also sending him a tweet saying: "What a freakin joke @HugoGaston7."
