Iga Swiatek resorted to questionable tactics during her match against Lauren Davis waving her hands at the court during a rally.
Swiatek defeated Davis in straight sets to advance at the US Open but a moment in the 2nd set became the tlaking point after the match. Davis was leading 2-0 with 30-30 in that game having to finish off a paint with her opponent on the net.
Swiatek resorted to waving her hands in the air as a way to distract Davis which many fans blasted on social media. John McEnroe thought it was not legal as well saying after the match:
“I don’t know about that. I don’t think that’s legal…that is a little bit below the belt. The last time I saw that was when I was playing in 1986 I believe and [Mansour] Bahrami came in and served, and put his hands wide open and said, ‘Hit me’. And my partner Peter Fleming hit him in the forehead. And I said, ‘He’s a joke, this guy! I don’t understand what he’s doing. This is serious’.
Some of the comments that fans wrote on social media will be listed below.
"Is this kind of movements to distract opponent like what Iga Swiatek does here allowed in tennis? It's poor sportsmanship. The past number one players like Steffi Graf, Navratilova, Evert, Lindsay Davenport, Monica Seles [didn't] do this sh*t. Embarassing."
"Obviously I love Iga but this really really winds me up, she needs to stop."
"Why does she never get hindrance (or at least warning) for this? Does she have to make some sort of noise for it to be hindrance?"
Check out what she did below.
