"I guess there's just a light at the end of the tunnel" - Serena Williams drops retirement hint after opening win in Toronto

Serena Williams made a winning return to Toronto beating Nuria Parizzas Diaz in straight sets to earn her first win in over a year.

The American played a solid match but not one without issues as she fended off multiple break points to allow herself to win in straight sets. Winning in two sets will be important for Serena as she tries to build up her fitness for tennis again.

When she finally closed out the match, Serena let out a huge roar:

"I guess there’s just a light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t know, I’m getting closer to the light, so .... Lately, that's been it for me. I can’t wait to get to that light."

Asked to clarify what that means and Serena responded with:

"Freedom. I love playing though, so it’s like amazing. But, you know, I can’t do this forever. So it’s just like sometimes you just want to try your best to enjoy the moments and do the best that you can.”
