"My body feels amazing" - Fernandez happy about win in Toronto

Leylah Fernandez returned in front of her fans and the Canadian squeezed through in a match full of excitement 6-4 6-7(2) 6-3.

It was a match that had everything as Fernandez showed some typical signs of not playing in a very long time. The Canadian was able to control the pace of the match well but played a very poor 2nd set tiebreak to send the match into the 3rd set. She was able to elevate her game once more and win the set sending the native crowd into a frenzy.

It was an emotional experience for Fernandez but she was just glad to get the win:

"It was definitely one tough match. It had everything. It had great moments, bad moments, it had spectacular moments from both players. I was just super happy that I was able to play in front of my home crowd. And also that at the end of the match my body feels amazing. So that's a huge positive. That's the biggest win that I can ask for."

Fernandez did not grow up in Toronto but playing anywhere in Canada feels like home for her:

"Here in Toronto, it's just like playing in front of my family, playing in front of the Canadian crowd, playing in front of all the people who have helped me, who have cheered me on throughout the years. So it's like a great way for me to say thank you to them by showing that all the years that not only I suffer, but they suffer too has paid off and hopefully that this can keep going."
