Aryna
Sabalenka responded to a question from Serena Williams in a hilarious moment at
the Madrid Open.
The
Belarusian player is currently the best WTA tennis player in 2023. Not only did
she win the trophy at the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open,
but she is also the first in the race to the Finals, which means she is the player
who has accumulated the most points this year according to the live ranking
(4220), leaving Elena Rybakina (3276) and Iga Swiatek (2495) behind.
During an
interview with Prakash Armitraj in Madrid, the journalist mentioned that Serena
Williams had written to him to ask Sabalenka a question: "What is the most
random thought that has ever come to your head on a tennis court?" The
Belarusian player took a moment to think about her answer, and then laughed as
she commented:
“I had a
burrito last night and I was thinking like, yeah definitely burrito didn’t help
me. Is all because of burrito.”
After the
funny moment, Sabalenka asked the interviewer to ask the same question to the
23-time Grand Slam champion in the future.
“I wonder
what was the random thoughts for Serena actually, can you ask her?” said world
No. 2.
Sabalenka
is now in the semifinals of the Madrid Open after her victory over Egyptian
player Maayar Sherif and will face the winner of the match between Maria
Sakkari and Irina Begu.
