Jelena Ostapenko won the Eastbourne International event by defeating Anett Kontaveit in the final 6-3 6-3.
It capped off an amazing week for Ostapenko who won her 4th career title in Eastbourne after bulldozing her way towards the trophy. Ostapenko is one of the most talented players in the world and when her game is on like it was this week she is impossible to beat.
Afer the match she said:
"I'm really happy with the way I played the whole week. There were some close matches, but I was fighting till the last moment. I played really well, and I think the semifinal and final I played really on a high level."
The Latvian was very calm heading into the match:
"I think I was honestly very calm going into the match. I had no stress at all. I warmed up really well, and I was really ready. I was just expecting a really tough match because I knew she's a great player and it's going to be really hard to play against her."
For Ostapenko this was an important step towards reaching her goals. The Latvian is a former world number 5, Roland Garros champion and Wimbledon semifinalist. On her future she said:
"I think it's just the beginning. If I keep playing the way I played this tournament, I think I can be back in the Top 10 and play well. So I just have to keep that in my mind and work even harder. "
