The 15-seeded
Angelique Kerber overcame a tough opponent in the form of Poland’s Magda Linette, 6-3, 6-3, to move into the third round for the ninth time at SW19.
Kerber, who has Polish origins and lives in Poland, was the victor in her only previous meeting with Linette, which was a tight three-setter on clay in Strasbourg. Now she did it again and speaking after the match, she said:
“Magda is a tough opponent, we played a few weeks ago so I knew what to expect. I think it was really important to stay in the moment, playing my game, enjoying my tennis and enjoying the energy on the court. It’s really special to be here again.
Speaking about
Wimbledon, she added:
“When I came here, I have so many great memories, of course winning
here in 2018, that was one of my biggest goals and dreams that I
achieved. Coming back here; it’s really a magic place for me.
Seeing the familiar faces and having a great time on and off court it’s
really great.”
