Marta Kostyuk opened up about being a tennis player while the country is engaged in a brutal war that creates heartbreaking stories every day.
The most outspoken Ukranian tennis player on social media and interviews about the War in Ukraine has been Marta Kostyuk as she refused to go easy on her emotions regarding the situation. Every day for her is a new stressfull experience as she follows along what his happening back home and that is impacting her enjoyment of tennis:
"It felt so good to play tennis before the war. It's a different reality now. Before it [playing tennis] felt like a lot of stress, but it is nothing compared to what we, Ukrainians, feel now. I just hope my career is not going to end quicker because of it."
Kostyuk noted that the whole experience was just tiring at the moment:
"It's just so tiring. [In sport] nobody will give you a free ticket, your opponent won't be like, Oh she has war at home, I'll give her a game, I'll let her win. No, [it's a competition], it doesn't work this way. I just feel at a constant disadvantage from the get-go."
Not being able to know what is going on is another thing that Kostyuk explained.
