Russia’s young tennis sensation
Mirra Andreeva has expressed
her desire to feature in a music video of her favourite artist, Taylor Swift.
The 18-year-old, who is regarded as the one for the future, is currently taking
part in the
Rome Open. The WTA 1000 event is moving towards the final stages
where the remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
Andreeva booked her spot in the quarterfinal after beating
Denmark’s Clara Tauson with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. After the match, the
youngster featured in the Tennis Channel’s VIP Tennis Lounge with Garbine
Muguruza where she was asked about who is her favourite and whether she would
be interested in a video with her.
In response to that, Andreeva picked Swift as the artist, and while she was more than ready to feature in the video with her, she admitted that she is not good at dancing. “I’d like to go with Taylor Swift,” she said.
“I like her music, and I think that it’s pretty energetic so I would just be
having fun in the background. I love to dance, but I’m bad at it... I don’t
know if I’ll mess up the whole video.”
Andreeva is now set to face America’s Coco Gauff in the
last-eight clash. The one-time Grand Slam winner cemented her spot in the quarterfinals
of the event after beating Britain’s Emma Raducanu in straight sets with a
score of 6-1, 6-2. This will be the fourth meeting between the two players in
professional tennis. In the previous three meetings, Gauff has had a clear edge as
she won on all three occasions. Interestingly, two of those meetings came while
playing on clay-court as well. Their most recent meeting came in the quarterfinal
of the Madrid Open this year where the American tennis star came out on top in
straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-1.
