Simona Halep eased past her compatriot Jacqueline Cristian in Cluj-Napoca and after the match, the Romanian spoke with the media.
After a bit of a tricky match against Gracheva where she needed to take a MTO, Simona Halep was back on track against Cristian whom she left without a chance. Striking the ball incredibly well, Halep was able to create huge leads in the early stages of the match and cruised from there. A 6-1 6-1 win was more than enough to secure a comfortable advancement to the semifinals.
After the match Halep underined consistency as a key part of her game and personality:
"I think consistency is a key part of my game and my personality and I am trying to do that every week and I want to enjoy playing tennis which is the most important thing right now.”
Halep has not hidden the fact that she enjoyed playing tennis all week in Romanian which is something that has been lacking throughout a very tough 2021 full of injuries. The Romanian is hopeful that building up confidence here does her good for a major 2022 campaign. Halep was also asked about her back and whether it was an issue:
"It was a little when I was hitting my backhand, I warmed up really well and I ignored the pain and focused on what I needed to do to play my game.”
She will face Marta Kostyuk next as the Ukrainian defeat Raducanu in the previous round.
