A more upbeat, positive coach for Swiatek – Stubbs’ prediction

Former world number one Serena Williams's ex-coach Rennae Stubbs believes that Poland’s Iga Swiatek will do well with her new coach. The 23-year-old has started her journey with Wim Fissette after parting ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski after three successful years.

Stubbs, while talking in her official podcast, where she expressed optimism that the reigning world number two will do well with her new coach. The 53-year-old was of the opinion that working with fresh ideas would help Swiatek, at least in the short run.

“Listen what do I think about how it’s going to go,” she said. “I think it’ll go great because Wim will come in with new ideas and fresh ideas, he’s a little bit and not a little bit he’s a lot more upbeat and a lot more positive than Tomasz [Wiktorowski]. Working with Iga or something ‘cause Iga clearly when she’s on the court, she gets very stressed and all the things you see and you have to be able to monitor that. I think Iga will probably do great and will look like a legend.”

Swiatek, who is regarded as one of the best players currently playing in women’s tennis along with the likes of Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka, is going through an impressive season. The Warsaw-born star played 59 matches in 2024, winning 51 and losing just eight in the process. Her most impressive performance this season came in the French Open where she lifted the title after beating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-1. It was her fourth Roland Garros title and third in the last three years. Other than that, Swiatek also won a bronze medal for her country in the Paris Olympics. She defeated Slovakia’s Anna Karolína Schmiedlova in the third-place clash in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
