America’s tennis star
Emma Navarro has revealed that she is ‘excited’
to face fellow countrywoman
Coco Gauff in the fourth-round of the
US Open. The
fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is moving towards the business end
where remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
One of the most anticipated encounter in the fourth round in
the women’s singles category will be between two American in Navarro and Gauff.
Talking about it, the New York-born was quoted in a report by British media
outlet Daily Express where she expressed excitement to face her fellow
countrywoman in the contest.
“It's really exciting,” she said. “I said it on the court. I
think it's so exciting to have two Americans playing in the fourth round. I'm
assuming we'll be playing on Arthur Ashe. That's kind of an experience that is
something I could have never even dreamed of. I'm playing the defending champ. I
think it will be a great match, and I'm just really excited for the
opportunity.”
Navarro booked her place in the fourth round after beating Ukraine’s
Marta Kostyuk in the round of 32 with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. It is the first
time ever that she has booked a place in the fourth round of the US Open. On
the other hand, Gauff, who is defending her title in New York, cemented her
place in the round of 16 after beating Elina Svitolina in the third round with
a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. It will be the third meeting between the two in
professional tennis. In the previous two meetings, both players managed to win on one
occasion. Their most recent meeting was during the Wimbledon earlier this year
where in the fourth round, it was Navarro who came out on top in straight sets with
a score of 6-4, 6-3.
