Linda Fruhvirtova is among the last 16 at the Miami Open after a string of good performances against much more experienced players.
Her latest triumph was overshadowed by an abrupt retirement from Azarenka that left many confused as to what happened. The Belarussian apologized for her retirement admitting that she should have withdrawn before the match. Fruhvirtova was not fazed by any of that as she was by far the better player on the court and held a 6-2 3-0 lead at the moment.
Speaking on the Miami Open sucess she said:
“I mean, it’s definitely one of my best tournaments so far – I think the best one. I never played against Top 25 player, and, yeah, it’s unbelievable. I still can’t believe it. I want to reach No.1,” she said. “I want to win Grand Slam titles, which hasn’t changed.”
Fruhvirtova is part of a new wave of tennis players entering the reals of professional tennis. She's amongst those that will carry the sport once this familiar generation is no longer part of the game and she understands that. Among them as well is her 14-year old sister Brenda who flashed some of her potential earlier this year as well.
Asked about her sister she said:
"We train together sometimes. She’s obviously really good. We play doubles together. Yeah, I just can’t wait till she’s playing these tournaments, too, and we can be here together. Yeah, I think she’ll get here soon.”
