Canadian tennis star
Bianca Andreescu kicked off her 2024
Roland Garros campaign with an easy win over Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo on Monday, and later admitted to utilizing elements from her past to secure the victory.
The former World No.3 secured a 7-5 6-1 victory over clay court specialist Sorribes Tormo, securing a second round meeting with 23rd seed
Anna Kalinskaya. Prior to the 2024 clay court season, Andreescu had been out of action since August 2023 due to injury. However, her convincing win over the Spaniard indicates she's slowly regaining her form.
Following the victory, Andreescu was asked if she borrowed any elements from the mindset that saw her reach the top of the game in 2019, when she stunned the tennis world by winning the US Open.
"For me it's inevitable because I'm definitely an overthinker," responded Andreescu. "So yeah, I do want to use the past to help me now. Like, how I played in 2019 was incredible.
"The mentality I had going into 2019 was super fearless, very competitive. I fought for everything if I was down 5-0 or if I was up 5-0. It was always the same mindset, so that's what I kind of lost over the years. I have no idea how but getting into that mindset of 2019 is kind of the only thing I look at."
