Ostapenko’s onslaught fell asleep in the opening set but she recovered to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, adding 28 winners to her Championships haul.
She is through to the second week for the first time since she reached the semi-finals four years ago. Ostapenko is a supremely talented player winning the French Open practically as a teenager a couple of years ago. She also played in the semifinals here and won the juniors event here in 2014. Speaking after this win, she said:
“I love to play on this court. The energy is amazing and I felt your support even when I was down and it helped me. I just love you guys. After that I played a little bit smarter and didn’t miss so much. I was close to my best tennis in the second and third set. I hope you guys enjoyed it.”
Such an Ostapenko is very hard to beat and she will certainly hope for another deep run here. After all, when she's playing like this, she's pretty unstoppable.
