Victoria Azarenka battled hard to reach the 2nd round of the bett1 Open in Berlin but she is ready to embrace the challenge.
Victoria Azarenka is through to the next round of the bett1 Open in Berlin after defeating Andrea Petkovic 6-4 7-6(2). The win was a hard-fought one as the Belarussian barely escaped with the 2nd set. She trailed twice in the set but ultimately forced a tiebreak that sealed it.
On that she said:
"I was sometimes dropping my level a bit with not being aggressive enough. I was getting too frustrated in some moments when I had opportunities and didn't take them, so I want to learn from that for my next round. I think I was putting myself into too much of a dangerous situation when I could have been more disciplined."
For Azarenka, this was her first match on grass in a long time and she needed time to find her rhythm. She also spoke about how she preferred to do it in matches rather than griding out in practice for hours. She said:
"It's a really good way of getting right into the matches. To find the rhythm in more difficult situations, it's maybe better than practicing for a longer time. Matches always show where your level is at."
