Felix Auger-Aliassime came back from one set down to defeat Roger Federer at the NOVENTI OPEN in Halle 4-6 6-3 6-2.
Roger Federer had a good start in his match against Auger-Aliassime although the Canadian missed some early opportunities in the match. Both players played well in the first set but Federer was simply better in key moments of the match. The Swiss ace had one break point and he converted it in superb fashion while Auger-Aliassime had 4 and still it was not enough.
All five of those points were played brilliantly by Federer and he won the first with 6-4. Things changed in the 2nd set as Auger-Aliassime stepped up considerably. He was focused on his own serve not allowing a single break point and finally found a breakthrough on return. He won the 2nd set with 6-3 and it was only the beginning.
The Canadian opened the 3rd set with an early break as Federer struggled more and more. He could not hit a 1st serve and once he did he was missing shots by a wide margin. Auger-Aliassime added another break to take a 4-0 lead sending Federer fans into depression.
The Canadian closed out the match by winning the final set with 6-2 sending Federer home early. The Swiss ace only got two matches on the grass under his belt ahead of Wimbledon.
