America’s tennis star
Jessica Pegula has revealed that she
did not have high hopes of going far in the mixed doubles category in the US
Open.
The 29-year-old suffered defeat in the final of the mixed
doubles category of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year with partner Austin
Krajicek.
They lost to Anna Danilina of Kazakhstan and Finland’s Harri
Heliovaara in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday.
Talking after the match, Pegula stated that she did not have
high hopes of going far in the mega-event.
"Thank you to Austin for playing with me this
week," she said. "At least we made it to the final. I wasn't very
nice at the beginning of the tournament with our hopes but we made it all the
way here and had some chances today so thanks for always playing with me."
Despite her success in the mixed doubles and doubles
categories, Pegula would be disappointed with how things went in the singles category.
The world number three was knocked out of the
US Open main
draw from the round of 16 after losing to fellow American Madison Keys with a
score of 6-1, 6-3.
