Emma Raducena Wimbledon 2021
Emma Raducanu returned to tennis at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose and the young Briton lost to Zhang 3-6 2-6.
The British player played her first match since her heroic Wimbledon run about a month ago. It was not meant to be as the British player was easily overpowered by the experience Zhang what was essentially her 2nd WTA-level event. After the match Raducanu said she was only starting out:
“I am still at the very beginning of my journey so every opportunity I get I am very grateful because I feel like I am constantly learning. On the WTA Tour every match is going to be difficult and there aren’t going to be many good matches."
Raducanu once again udnerlined it's the start of her journey and she still has a lot to learn:
“I am at the very beginning, it is my second WTA Tour tournament, I am just learning and it is onwards from here. What I learned is how to try and deal with someone when they are playing very well and you feel like you are not doing much wrong but you are constantly on the back foot."
Raducanu expressed her belief that she did not play well but was simply overpowered by a more experienced player. She believes that one day if she is patient it will pay off:
“That is not something I am used to at the levels I have played before. Stepping up to this level, I feel she just dictated me. I didn’t play badly so I am just continuing with the hard work I am doing. If I keep going this way at some point it will pay off.”
