"I won US Open in Big 3 era" says Marin Cilic about Hall of Fame aspirations

Marin Cilic won the Silver medal for Croatia at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the doubles event and he hopes his career will be good enough for the Hall of Fame.

Cilic had an above-average career in an era where achieving that is rather hard. The Croatian won a Grand Slam and recently added an Olympic medal to his trophy collection. Last month Goran Ivanisevic was inducted into the Hall of Fame and Cilic was asked if that will happen to him as well. He said:

"I don't know. That will be decided by those people who make those decisions. Goran Ivanisevic deserved to make the Tennis Hall of Fame miuch earlier. Who knows, maybe that will happen to me as well. In this era that features Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer I managed to win the US Open and achieve many other successes. I won the Davis Cup and I don't want to stop there."

Cilic was also asked about his achievement in Tokyo, winning the silver medal and coming close to winning gold. He said:

“We are extremely proud to hold this medal. This is something that was missing in our trophy cabinet. Me and Ivan know each other from our early days, since we started tennis, so even to be here at the pinnacle of the sport, to play in a gold medal match at the Olympics, is a dream come true."

Cilic wrapped up his thoughts by saying:

"We can’t describe how important this is going to be in looking back on our careers when we’re much older”.
