Iga Swiatek failed to advance past the quarterfinals in Warsaw as
Caroline Garcia proved better 6-1 1-6 6-4.
It was a roller coaster ride that Swiatek fans did not get to see many times this year. She was usually very effective in beating players but today was a match where she had to fight hard from the start. Garcia beating a top player is nothing strange, she's done it many times before, particularly when her tennis is one fire like it has been recently.
Today she demonstrated all her talent early by taking a 4-0 lead against the reigning number one. She would finish off the opening set with 6-1. Proving to be very much capable of playing dominating tennis, Swiatek wrestled control of the match in the second set to take an early lead. That lead turned into a pretty cold 6-1 revenge set served to Garcia.
The Polish player served better and played much better overall leaving fans in no doubt about her comeback win. It looked tricky early on as Garcia forced the first break points of the final set. After holding the serve, Swiatek looked comfortable until 3-4 when she threw away a 30-15 game to drop her serve at the worst possible time.
Garcia stepped up to serve out the match but did the same thing. A 30-0 lead turned into a dropped service game, giving Swiatek a chance. She had a couple of game balls but ultimately it was Garcia who closed it ut with another break 6-4. What a match this was.
