Carlos Alcaraz is one step closer to a successful title defence in Umag as he booked a semifinal spot over Facundo Bagnis 6-0 6-4.
This match was largely a no-contest because Bagnis could not produce a good enough level to stand up to Alcaraz. At times, the Argentine did find some solutions but it was largely due to Alcaraz not playing as intense as he could have. The Spaniard came out inspired in this match and he caught fire early which never stopped burning.
Alcaraz won the first two games with ease, then the next two and then two more for the opening set bagel against Bagnis who could do very little. The power of Alcaraz from the baseline was too much to handle and despite trying his best, Bagnis was overmatched.
The Argentine found some solutions in the 2nd set but Alcaraz toned down his aggressiveness noticeably and it resulted in a bigger battle but the same result. The Spaniard is now fairly close to defending his trophy in Umag which was a goal, especially after losing in Hamburg. That defeat disappointed Alcaraz very much and he came to Croatia on a mission.
