Fourth round in her sights 👀 The world No. 1 put in another superlative performance, beating Pera 6-3, 6-2 🔥 @iga_swiatek | @WTA | #MMOPEN
Iga Swiatek is enjoying a very good run in Madrid following a trophy in Stuttgart last week as she defeated Bernarda Pera in straight sets 6-3 6-2 to advance at the Madrid Open.
Swiatek is a superb clay player and she's showing it once more in Madrid. Taking on another solid player like Pera, the Pole demonstrated a very high level that saw her win almost flawlessly. She did drop her serve once but outside of that Swiatek largely dominated on her own serve losing only a handful of points.
She served well hitting four aces and that was a big reason why things worked out well for her. On return, Swiatek attacked Pera on her second serve which is usually how players play against her. The American doesn't have a good second serve and she only won a couple of points behind her second serve (5/19).
Overall, it was just a strong showing from the number one who has never won in Madrid. It's one of those clay events that she's yet to win but be assured that she will add that trophy to her cabinet sooner or rather. Perhaps even next week.
