Poland’s tennis star Iga Swiatek has achieved another milestone
after her recent win against America’s Coco Gauff.
The 22-year-old defeated the young American sensation in the
WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico with a score of 6-0, 7-5 on Wednesday.
With that win, Swiatek has matched the record of the former
world number one America’s Monica Seles of taking the fewest matches to win 30
times against opponents who are in the top 10 in the WTA Rankings.
Swiatek will be hoping to continue her winning streak when she
will face Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the final match of the group stage of the
competition on Thursday.
It will be the seventh meeting between the two players on
the tennis court. In the last six outings, the current world number two has an
edge as she emerged victorious on four occasions.
The last meeting between the two took place in Stuttgart in
April earlier this year where Swiatek emerged victorious, after being awarded a
walkover.
Jabeur will also come into the match high on confidence as
she defeated the reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in her
previous outing in the competition in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday.
