BREAKING: Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from Paris. After finishing his match past 2:30 am last night and being scheduled to play 14 hours later, this is somewhat expected. Pitiful scheduling for one of the world’s best players.
Jannik Sinner will not continue on at the Paris Masters and Alex de Minaur is into the Quarter-Finals after scheduling forced the hand of the Italian.
Sinner saw off Mackenzie McDonald late last night in a gruelling 6-7, 7-5, 6-1 win. But instead of being given the chance to recuperate, he instead was scheduled to return in only two hours time (14 hours after he initially played).
This in itself shines a spotlight on the Paris Masters and ATP. Usually an issue that WTA players encounter, it is now ATP that are having to choose whether they continue in a tournament due to scheduling woes.
Novak Djokovic was in the same predicament after playing late last night, he was set to return 14 and a half hours later. A point that was given by Casper Ruud who said a player of Djokovic's ilk should not be treated like that.
He asked the ATP to sort it out and it seems the same issues have blighted the run of Sinner who will now turn his attention to a home ATP Finals. Despite previously winning it multiple times, he will not play the Sofia Open and has also not entered Moselle Open Metz.
