Iga Swiatek defeated
Daria Kasatkina for the 2nd time in 2022, and similar to their match in Melbourne, Swiatek was once more quite dominant.
Iga Swiatek changed coaches ahead of the 2022 season expressing a desire to return to her aggressive style of playing that she had a couple of years ago. That type of style allowed her to win her maiden grand slam trophy at the 2020 French Open. Last year she tried a more measured approach and it did not work out every time hence why the change.
So far in 2022, she has been superb and another thrashing proved just that. Just like a month ago in Melbourne, Swiatek took on Daria Kasatkina and similarly she was, she was impressive once more. She was very dominant in the first serve serving better and hitting the ball much better than Kasatkina. She won the majority of rallies and won the set with 6-1.
The only game Kasatkina won was on Swiatek's serve and it shows just how dominant the Polish player was returning the ball. Swiatek jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd set as well and never looked back. Once more it was very dominant from the baseline and there was nothing Kasatkina could do. In the end, the players shook hands on the net with Swiatek moving on to the 2nd round.
