Iga Swiatek to open Centre Court on Tuesday at Wimbledon

Iga Swiatek will open the Centre Court action on Tuesday at Wimbledon instead of Simona Halep who was the winner in 2019.

Halep never got the chance to open the WTA part of the draw on the Centre Court as the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the pandemic. Ashleigh Barty was supposed to do it this year as the defending champion, per tradition, but the Australian player retired from tennis.

Since then discussions have been ongoing about who might do it with lots of ideas. In the end, it will be Iga Swiatek who will get the honour as the number one ranked player in the world with an active 30+ matches winning streak.

She will do so against Jana Fett.
