Iga Swiatek proved she's the best once more as the Polish player battled past a very uninspiring Sabalenka for another trophy in 2022 6-2 6-2.
The final score of the match indicates that it was never competitive and in reality, it wasn't. Sabalenka entered the match quite lacklustre which is nothing strange as she did that in pretty much every match she played this week. What was troublesome for her was that she never quite found any rhythm in the latter stages of the match.
Swiatek was pretty solid overall but it was nothing spectacular for the Polish player. She simply did not do enough with her serve and in rallies to keep Sabalenka away from asserting her dominant style of play. It was very similar to the one they played in Doha earlier this year which Swiatek also won in straight sets. For Sabalenka, serving well was paramount but she never quite got it done with only 51 % of her first services hitting the needed spot.
That opened plenty of chances for Swiatek who took 4/6 break points she had. She saved the only two she allowed on her own serve and that simply proved enough. Sabalenka falls short of the trophy for the 2nd consecutive year. Swiatek on the other hand won her 4th consecutive trophy on the WTA tour.
