Swiatek BNPPO Trophy
Iga Swiatek won her 28th match in a row against Ons Jabeur 6-2 6-3 to defend the Rome Masters trophy she lifted last year.
Iga Swiatek went back-to-back in Rome winning the trophy both last year and this year. Last year was an utter thrashing against Pliskova 6-0 6-0 and while this year it's been a bit more competitive the winner was never in doubt. Despite trailing Jabeur 1-2 in the H2H matchup, the Polish player looked like the far better player for the majority of the match.
It was quite indicative of how much better than everybody else she currently is. Jabeur won 11 matches in a row prior to this one but today she simply could not do anything. From the baseline, Swiatek was very dominant and the point was either decided by her winner or her mistake. She did not even play as great as she can and the match was still not close.
Swiatek opened with a 3-0 lead and from there she mostly cruised. She added another break to close out the opening set with 6-2. The 2nd set was a bit more competitive as Jabeur was able to find some brilliance at times in the game. Every time she raised her game Swiatek responded equally showcasing that she technically has an even higher level. In the end, she had an answer to everything finishing it off with 6-2.
