It was touted as an exciting affair and it certainly ended up being just that despite the result being what many thought it would be - Iga Swiatek winning in two sets.
It was a win but it was not the demolition that we've gotten so used from Swiatek in the psat year. The fans enjoyed it because it was a great match from both players. First set went to Swiatek 5-3 and it was a pretty decent set by the Polish player. She took on early break as Bencic struggled to find good solution in rallies early on.
She found them a bit later breaking back but then again failed to hold serve as Iga cruised to a 6-3 finish. t only got better in the second set as the level rose from both. Bencic still had issues with her serve and eventually lost it in the 3rd game of the match but battled back to make it 5-5. Swiatek had chances to make it a double break lead but failed to do so and Bencic was able to make it interesting.
The tiebreak opened better for Swiatek as she took a 5-2 lead which was enough for her to close it out 7-3. A good result for Swiatek who is still looking like the best player in the world.
