Iga Swiatek wins Wimbledon opener on Centre Court

It was not pretty the entire time but Iga Swiatek largely dominated her 1st round encounter with Jana Fett 6-0 6-3.

Swiatek started off really well in this affair blasting winners against Fett who was giving her many chances. The first serve is really important on grass yet Fett was not serving well at all. Even worse, she gave a lot of free points on her serve by committing numerous double faults. 11 of the 33 points played behind her first serve in the first set to be precise.

That was more than enough for Swiatek to cruise to a 6-0 finish. The 2nd set featured a lot more battling because Fett played generally better and served better. Swiatek struggled a bit with timing and everything else but despite falling behind 1-3, she was able to battle back to make it 3-3.

Eventually she found a strong rhytm outplaying her opponent withouth many problems down the stretch. It was a decent match for Iga with 10 winners and only 15 mistakes. Her opponent was simply not up to par with 7 winners and 22 unforced errors.
