Despite suffering one of the most brutal losses of her career at the Sydney Tennis Classic, Emma Raducanu is looking to put the moment behind and focus on the future.
The reigning US Open champion was only able to muster a game in her opening round loss to Elena Rybakina on Tuesday, who cruised through with a 6-1 6-0 victory. Nonetheless, Raducanu was able to maintain a positive attitude after the match.
"I think I’ll brush this off," said the British star. "Yesterday was pretty much my 2nd time playing competitive points for 2 months. I’m confident that I can brush it off and keep going and keep working."
Raducanu suffered some early round losses after her stunning triumph at last year's US Open, eventually taking the rest of the season off and finding a new coach. The World No.18 now has a huge target on her back, but seems to have developed the right mentality moving forward.
"I just want to keep putting myself out there," said the 19-year old. "Even if I keep getting knocked down, it’s just about getting back up and basically falling in front. You’re one step better and you learn more.
"I’m just at the start of my first season. My goal is to not get too down or too high
