Emma Raducanu played her first match in 2022 in Sydney and she did not have a great time getting smashes by Rybakina with ease 6-0 6-1.
Elena Rybakina is a very good tennis player that usually plays much better in Australia compared to the rest of the Tour. The conditions fit the player extremely well and it allows her to unleash her powerful serve and groundstrokes. When she has her day, Rybakina is almost unbeatable and today was such a day. In all fairness, Raducanu did not play a great match either but a bit more fight would have been good.
The British player started off her first game well taking a 40-15 lead in it but after losing that she completely collapsed. Rybakina just kept pounding and pounding the ball from the baseline and Raducanu had no idea what to do with that. The British player tried to wiggle out with some strong serves but ultimately risked too much committing four double faults in the first set.
She lost the opening set 0-6 winning only 1 of 8 % second service points. The start of the 2nd set did not bring any change as Raducanu served a bit worse than in the first. She was still committing double faults and was still struggling on her 2nd serve. She finally got the zero off the board by winning her game at 0-3 to make it 1-3.
None of that mattered much as Rybakina cruised to a 6-1 2nd set finish.
