Iga Swiatek failed to defend her title at the Adelaide International yet the Polish player was not disappointed by her result at the event.
Swiatek played some great tennis in Adelaide overall showcasing a glimpse of what she promised when the event started. For Swiatek getting back to what worked over a year ago was key and here she showed her signature aggressive playstyle albeit the consistency was off at times. Such was the case against Barty as well with the Australian using that to her advantage.
After the match, Swiatek was positive about the outcome saying:
“Today was a good match. It was more even than the score says. I'm happy w/ my performance. Of course, I'm not satisfied because I lost. I know what mistakes I've done."
Despite losing to Barty, overall Swiatek has a lot of positives to look back upon. The draw was not an easy one as she took down top 30 players in Azarenka and Fernandez. Both of those players played fairly well themselves so the victories against them are nothing to disregard lightly. Swiatek agreed:
"I'm pretty happy with my results here. My draw wasn't easy. I played really solid vs. Leylah & Vika."
The focus now remains on getting ready for the Australian Open where Swiatek will hope for a deep run.
