Retired American tennis pro
Chris Evert projected a certain tranquility while on the tennis court, but the 67-year old has revealed this façade is far from her disposition in real life.
In a recent podcast, the former World No.1 spoke about how her personal life is completely different from her tennis image on the court. She began by stating her ability to absorb pressure was a trait that only appeared when she was on the tennis court.
"I realized at a young age that my temperament by being calm and cool on the court, by being present in every single point, and trying to win every single point, and having, you know, just a good mental beat being strong mentally, I felt that that was my strength in my game," disclosed Evert. "But trust me, in my personal life, I’m a, you know, I’m a wreck."
Furthermore, the 18-time Grand Slam titlist used raising a family as an example of a situation where she was not in complete control, as opposed to being on a tennis court.
"You raise kids, and you go, what the heck, you know, what, what do I do now, you know, my hands are up in the air all the time," added Evert. "So I think that was the only place that I could control myself.”
