It will be the battle of the two highest-seeded players in the Rome final. The first-seeded
Simona Halep will take on no. 2 in Rome,
Karolina Pliskova. It is the second final in a row for the Czech player as she triumphed in Rome the last year. For Halep the story was different the last year, she lost already in the second round to the Pliskova's this year's semifinal opponent,
Marketa Vondrousova.
However, the Romanian also knows how it feels to play final in Rome when she lost to Elina Svitolina back in 2018. But it won't be only about the experience from previous finals this time. Both players are entering the final in a very good form and it's very difficult to predict the winner. Although Halep leads H2H 7-4, Pliskova got the last two victories and most of the matches were played on the hardcourt.
This year, they are both in a stunning form as they both lost only one set on their way to the final. While Halep lost a set against Garbine Muguruza in the semifinals, Pliskova needed to play the deciding set against Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals. It will be the third straight tournament victory for Halep as
she triumphed in Dubai before the WTA Tour suspension, and
kicked-off the claycourt season with victory in Prague.
