Amanda Anisimova won the Melbourne Summer Set 2 event against Sasnovich and after the match, the young American was happy about the win.
Anisimova burst onto the scene as a 17-year old when she reached a grand slam semifinal in Paris. Since then it's been a bit of a struggle for Anisimova who could never quite replicate the same success. 2021 was especially a tough year with her dealing with some injuries and never finding any type of form. She saw her ranking plummet but 2022 has already started well.
After winning the trophy in Melbourne she said:
“Tennis can be a difficult journey at times but I'm so blessed and
grateful to have the people in my life that I have. They put a smile on
my face every single day."
Anisimova also admitted to being really well mentally at the moment which has not always been the case in the past. She said:
“I'm in such a good headspace now, even after an incredibly tough
year, so it's just so good to start off the year in a good place and
winning a title. I couldn't ask for anything more, so I'm just happy that all my work has paid off… I'm just super grateful.”
