Belinda Bencic was forced to retire against Ons Jabeur in the Berlin Open final after slipping on the grass in the 2nd set.
Jabeur was playing a very good match, certainly, a better one than Bencic and the Tunisian player was up in the match when the injury happened. It happened in the 2nd set as Bencic slipped out of nowhere and immediately looked in discomfort. She tried to walk it off but in the end, it was not meant to be and she was forced to retire.
Speaking briefly after the match Bencic explained that she felt something in her ankle which is not very good news. She is unsure how bad it is and it seems like it might not be that bad because she did not seem too worried after the match:
"I just slipped, not sure how. I feel it's something in my ankle/Achilles. I'm going to evaluate it with the doctors, go home and rest. It was a very positive week. My tennis was great. I'm happy with my level."
