Jim Courier shared his opinion on the boos directed at Danielle Collins following her exit at the Australian Open. The World No. 11 found herself in a controversy with the crowd after blowing kisses following her win over local player Destanee Aiava, which did not sit well with the Australian audience.
Two days later, Collins walked onto the Rod Laver Arena amidst boos for her third-round duel against Madison Keys. After her loss, she once again faced a negative reaction from the crowd as she exited the court. However, the American stated that she wasn’t too bothered by the boos.
Jim Courier, who was commentating during the match as a TV analyst, was present at Melbourne Park during the Collins vs. Keys encounter and commented on the strong boos directed at 'Danimal'. “I was in the TV compound, not on the court, and I could hear the boos wafting out of the stadium. It was something to see,” the former World No. 1 said.
“I think she probably got a bit of joy from it in a way because she does kind of like the combat aspect of it. But I do think she came out of the gates a little slowly and maybe it did rattle her a bit,” he added.
Collins’ journey in Australia came to an abrupt end despite initial signs of a deep run, considering her history as a former finalist at the tournament and her impressive 2024 comeback, returning to the top 10 after more than two years.
