Naomi Osaka admitted to having difficulties while facing off against her countrywoman Misaki Doi in the 1st round of the US Open.

Naomi Osaka had some difficulties in the 1st round of the US Open against Misaki Doi but ultimately she regrouped and won in three sets. The end result was 6-2 5-7 6-2. Speaking immidietly post match for the on court interview she admitted:
"It was very difficult. I kind of expected it because of the first round nerves, and she's also a very tough opponent. I knew there was a chance it could get really long. I just have to see what happens tomorrow and how I feel."
Many wondered about Osaka's fitness heading into the match because a few days ago she retired from the Western & Southern Open final due to a hamstring injury. Her play was pretty good and there wasn't any sign of discomfort. She did criticize some aspects of her game:
"I felt like my ball toss could have been better, but it did what it needed to do on the very important points, so I can't be that mad. I still have to practice."
Whe asked about her next opponent, the tricky Camila Giorgi, Osaka said she needed to be careful:
"I've played her before. She's very unpredictable for me. I just have to be on my toes."
