Caroline Garcia had to play the qualifiers to get into the main draw of the Western & Southern Open and today she'll play in the championship match.
It was a match that was stopped twice by rain and it was Gracia who dealt better in those conditions. Sabalenka had moments and actually delivered her best serving performance in the past couple of weeks but the French player was unstoppable from the backline. This run was not expected:
"I guess no one expected it, that's for sure. It's a long way to come from qualies."
It certainly is but it's well deserved. She's been one of the best performers since winning the Bad Homburg Open on grass and she added another trophy in Warsaw on clay as well. It's not her first final as she actually won a few in the past:
"First, to be in the final of a 1000 event after so many years, and
the scenario of today was just unbelievable. We had to
stop a few times. We never know when we will come back. It was long
wait, and in the wait you never know what you are supposed to do, so it
was tough. I'm very happy with the last preparation for the comeback at 3-1. I was really ready for every point. It made the difference."
