21-year-old Amanda Anisimova is the latest player to take a mental health break from the tennis tour.
Amanda Anisimova has taken a mental health break away from the WTA Tour admitting it has become 'unbearable' and while she has tried to push through it, she sees no other option.
The 21-year-old American had a breakout season in 2022 but since last Summer has failed to replicate the same form coming into the 2023 season.
This will mean that Anisimova will miss the French Open where she has previously reached the semi-finals as well as likely Wimbledon where last year she reached the Quarter-Finals, with her time frame being to take a break 'for some time'.
This announcement also came on the same day that disparaging comments were made to Anisimova surrounding her body which she posted on social media.
"I've been really struggling with my mental health and burnout since the Summer of 2022. It's become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time," she wrote.
"I've worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there and I appreciate all the continuous support."
